What is Vedic Maths?

The term ‘Vedic’ originated from a Sanskrit word ‘Veda’, that signifies ‘Knowledge’.  Vedic Math is a super assortment of sutras to take care of math issues in a quicker and simple manner.

This article will discuss about simple method to find the square of two-digit and three-digit numbers.

Sqaure of any  two digit number

In order to find square of any two digit number follow the steps given below

Example 1: 642

Let X= FIRST NUMBER 6

Let Y= SECOND NUMBER 4

Write the equation in form of

X2    2XY   Y2

By replacing equation with numbers we will get

62    2*6*4   42

=

36      48      16

  • In the third number set 16,  the digit 1 will act as carry and it will add to the second number set 48

carry    1

              +

36      48        6

=

36      49         6

  • In the second number set 49,  the digit 4 will act as carry and it will add to first number set 36

  4 (carry)

  +

36        9          6

=

4096 – Answer

Therefore the sqaure of 64 is 4096.

Example 2: 572

Let X= FIRST NUMBER 5

Let Y= SECOND NUMBER 7

Write the equation in form of

X2    2XY   Y2

By replacing equation with numbers we will get

52    2*5*7    72

=

25      70      49

  • In the third number set 49,  the digit 4 will act as carry and it will add to the second number set 70

carry    4

              +

25       70       9

=

25      74         9

  • In the second number set 74,  the digit 7 will act as carry and it will add to first number set 25

   7 (carry)

  +

25        4          9

=

3249 – Answer

Therefore the sqaure of 57 is 3249.

Sqaure of any three digit number

The steps for finding the square of any 3 digit number is given below

Example 1: 1042

Let X=  10 (pair first 2 digits)

Let Y= 4 (last digit)

Write the equation in form of

X2    2XY   Y2

By replacing equation with numbers we will get

102    2*10*4   42

=

100      80      16

  • In the third number set 16,  the digit 1 will act as carry and it will add to the second number set 80

carry    1

              +

100      80        6

=

100      81         6

  • In the second number set 81,  the digit 8 will act as carry and it will add to first number set 100

    8 (carry)

    +

100        1          6

=

10816 – Answer

Therefore the sqaure of 104 is 10816.

Example 2: 1272

Let X= 12 (pair first 2 digits)

Let Y= 7 (Last digit)

Write the equation in form of

X2    2XY   Y2

By replacing equation with numbers we will get

122    2*12*7   72

=

144      168      49

  • In the third number set 49,  the digit 4 will act as carry and it will add to the second number set 168

  carry      4

                  +

144      168        9

=

144      172         9

  • In the second number set 172,  the number 17 will act as carry and it will add to first number set 144

    17 (carry)

     +

144        2          9

=

16129 – Answer

Therefore the sqaure of 127 is 16129.
